Michael Seiter was the Chaplain of the Highway Disciples, (the Katy
Texas chapter of the Christian Motorcyclists Association) and the
Praise and worship leader for West Oaks Fellowship Church in
Houston at the time of his death on December 21st, 2002 in a house
fire. He led a Christian rock and roll ministry band on the side that
performed in prisons during the Bill Glass prison events, on the
street and other outreaches. His death brought about a partnership
of two of Michaels loves, West Oaks Fellowship and the CMA. Here
is an excerpt from an article written by the West Oaks Fellowship
leader, Pastor Frank Estes aka "the Rev".
"It's hard to imagine that because of one brother's life of service,
sacrifice and seemingly untimely death, that so many meaningful and purposeful
things/relationships could be birthed and built. However, we all know that God
does things above and beyond what any of us could possibly imagine. I still miss
Michael deeply - still cry at times, when I hear a song he could nail or see you
guys/gals ride up in your leathers and hear the deep rumble of your bike's pipes.
But, my morning has been turned into joy, celebration and dancing as I
consider all the Lord has done through our coming together. Ministry, true
friendships, God-centered relationships, and changed lives -- all because we're
learning to be a team, supporting each other's efforts, accepting our differences,
recognizing our callings/gifts and humbly seeking to be used by God according
to His plans and purposes. We're seeking to do His will, not our own. Thanks for
letting me be part of the team, and thanks for allowing West Oaks Fellowship the
honor of serving you with the resources God has entrusted to our care. Our
house is your house and all our "stuff" is to be used by His servants to the glory
of our only Lord, Jesus Christ!"
Several of the Highway Disciple members decided to form a band and follow
in Michael's footsteps by ministering through music to the lost, the least and
the forgotten. We call ourselves "MICHAEL'S GATE" because of the gate
that was opened between West Oaks Fellowship and the Highway Disciples
that joined separate parts of Michaels Life together into a new partnership.
